People need to eat. fccem helps.

Two of the most prominent and long-standing ministries of our church relate to the fight against hunger in the Quad Cities. Here's a brief summary of our food pantry and meal site ministries, both done in partnership with Churches United, the iconic ecumenical group of Quad Cities churches.

[NOTE: Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we're not currently accepting food pantry donations. The description of that ministry found below applies to its pre-COVID state, for whose return we fervently pray.]

a food pantry ministry

Churches United manages a collection of 25 food pantry locations in the Quad Cities area, one of which is hosted by our 7th Street neighbor, Christ United Methodist Church. Those food pantries welcome donations that equip them to respond to nearly 140,000 requests for food each year. FCCEM supports the Christ UMC pantry with monthly donations, both of non-perishable food items in the church lobby on the third Sunday of the month, and of cash, which the food pantry uses to purchase food at greatly reduced prices from the Riverbend Food Bank.

You can contribute to our food pantry ministry by bringing your donation to the church on the third Sunday of the month, or during the week prior to or after the third Sunday. You can also mail your monetary donation to the church; just make sure to use the check's memo line to identify "food pantry" as the target of your gift.

a meal site ministry

On the second Monday of even-numbered months, we prepare and serve a nutritious hot meal for anywhere between 15-50 people at the Churches United meal site hosted by Mt Zion Missionary Baptist Church in East Moline. Volunteers prepare and/or serve the meal (usually both) but we welcome volunteers to perform the task(s) of their preference.

YOU can help us fight hunger through our meal site ministry. We're always eager to welcome volunteers. Simply contact the church office. The church pays for all the food and has several people who are quite experienced in the ministry, so you'll learn well and learn quickly.

[IMPORTANT: Until further notice, the meal site hosted by Mt. Zion Church remains closed. In response, we have joined the team of churches and other groups preparing and serving the meal site hosted by Zion Lutheran Church in Davenport. No set schedule of our place in the Zion Lutheran meal site service schedule has been determined.]
