ask. engage. explore

"Sunday groups " is our term for what many churches call "Sunday School." On Sunday mornings at 9:00 a.m. we gather in small groups to catch up on the week that was, to pray for and support each other in our respective challenges, and to study the Bible in search of truth and understanding.

At the moment, two Sunday groups meet under the umbrella name "Generations." We're always in search of God's direction to expand our offerings, both in number and the generations the groups serve. If you or your family members have an interest in growing faith through a Sunday group experience, we have (or will create) a group for you.

Here's a brief portrait of the two Generations groups we currently offer:

AN IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT OUR SUNDAY GROUPS

Sunday groups are what we call the two classes we currently hold on Sunday mornings for both education and community. HOWEVER, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, only one of our two groups meets - our provocative Bible study on whether Jesus was God, the second of the two described below - currently meets on Sunday mornings.

generations: lectionary bible study

Churches around the world employ a weekly schedule of Bible readings called the "lectionary." Comprised of short readings from both the Old and New Testaments, each week's collection of passages is ripe for group study that searches not only for the meaning and message of each specific text, but the theme(s) that tie the texts together.

This lectionary Bible study group meets on our building's upper level, opens its meetings with a time of sharing about the whats, whys, and wherefores of everyday life, uses highly-regarded study notes as its principal resource, and contributes to our Sunday morning experience by preparing the coffee and providing the goodies we share during our coffee and conversation time from 10:00-10:30 a.m.

In addition, the two Generations Sunday groups jointly maintain a mission fund from which they contribute to causes both local and global. The Generations Mission Fund's principal ministry is its monthly support of a child who lives in the Dominican Republic through Compassion International, a Christian relief agency.

generations: tO THE POINTE

Our "To the Pointe" group gets its name from the naturally beautiful knoll we call "The Pointe" on the east side of our church building. The group pursues various forms of Bible study. Its current focus is a provocative examination of questions related to Jesus - most specifically, was Jesus God? Find out more about that study by clicking HERE.

Group conversations are wide-ranging, supportive, and often fun. As is the case with our other Sunday group, fitting in and finding your place in this group is pretty simple.

The "To the Pointe" group joins with our lectionary study group to maintain a mission fund from which they contribute to causes both local and global. The Generations Mission Fund's principal ministry is its monthly support of a child who lives in the Dominican Republic through the international relief agency Compassion. In the fund's nearly 25 years in existence, our adult Sunday groups have donated more than $16,000. Praise God!
