our wintertime CLOTHING MINISTRY is here!

In early 2022 we decided to discontinue our participation in Operation Christmas Child (OCC), the shoebox ministry of Samaritan's Purse. To fill the void left by that decision, we opened our ears and hearts to God's leaning via, among others, a request for suggestions that we posted to this website. We believe God has answered our prayers and led us to OCC's successor. Read on!

our second winterwear giveaway coming in january

If you or someone you care about is in need of winter outerwear - a coat, gloves, scarf, boots, etc. - we invite you to our building on Saturday, January 14, from 9:00-11:00 a.m. (while our supplies last) when we'll hold the second item giveaway of our Warm Up for Winter ministry.

We've collected several items in a variety of sizes and want to put in the hands of people who can use them, so we'd love to welcome you.

AND AN IMPORTANT NOTE: We'll also welcome your donations on the 14th! If you have new or gently used winterwear that you'd like to make available to others, drop them by during the giveaway. We'll add your items to our inventory and make them available during that and future giveways.

WARM UP FOR WINTER: Winter outerwear for and from our community

Warm Up for Winter distributes new- and gently-used winter outerwear - coats, hats, gloves, mittens, scarves, etc. - to people who visit our facility on the day(s) the ministry is open for distribution(specific dates for item distribution will be announced on this page as they are decided)

To assure this ministry's success, we rely on the generosity of our community. Since September 2022 we've welcomed donations of new- and gently-used winterwear at our church - ANY size, for ANY age, infants to adults. All we ask is that the item(s) you donate be new or gently-used.

We held our first distribution session on November 5, 2022.

YOU can help us provide needed winterwear to Quad Cities-area individuals and families. Round up your items and bring them to our church, located at 3501 7th St in East Moline, during our weekly COLLECTION sessionTUESDAYS: 9:00-11:00 a.m. You may also make an appointment to drop off items at our church. To make arrangements, visit our "CONTACT US" page). At  times during the year, we'll welcome winterwear donations on a monthly basis, again on a schedule we'll announce on this website.

first coat giveaway set for november 5

We've collected enough coats through our Warm Up for Winter ministry to hold the first of what we pray will be an ongoing series of giveaway events on Saturday, November 5, from 9:00-Noon, while supplies last.

We're new to this kind of ministry, so we know we might have to revise the guidelines we've established for this first giveaway. That said, here the guidelines for this first giveaway:

  • Adult coats only (we hope to include kids' coats in future giveaways)
  • One coat per person
  • You may receive a coat only for yourself

Where to find us:

First Christian Church of East Moline

     3501  7th St

     East Moline, IL

There are other winter outerwear collections going on in the Quad Cities (praise God!). Thank you for learning about and perhaps participating in ours, either as a donor or a recipient.
