covid-19 will not stop us from worshiping!

The Coronavirus pandemic has brought our weekly worship, as well as basically all of our meetings and ministries, to a temporary but necessary halt. April 26 will be our sixth consecutive Sunday without Sunday worship in our building. We won't be there on May 3 either, but we WILL be in worship together, we hope along with you... by phone! Wherever you live, whatever your church affiliation or background (if any!), we invite you to join us for a special fifteen minute experience of praise and worship on May 3, beginning promptly at 10:30 a.m. Our pastor, Bill Coley, will lead the worship while seated at the communion table in our building's worship center. Look below for instructions for how to join our worship (Spoiler Alert: You won't have to say or sing a word if you don't want to!)

worship by phone, May 3, 10:30 a.m. - The faqs

WHAT IS IT?

A fifteen minute experience of praise, prayer, and worship in which people participate by phone, not in person. So you may join us from your home, your porch, your walk around the block, your.... Wherever you'll be, you'll be welcome among us.

WHO MAY PARTICIPATE?

In short, YOU... and everyone else. This experience will contain a few elements that are specific to First Christian Church of East Moline (certain prayer concerns, for example) but most of the time will be spent singing, praying, and listening for God's word to us in these trying times in a way that will welcome all people. Wherever you live, whatever your church history - including if you have NO church history! - we'd love for you to join us on this special call.

WHAT WILL I HAVE TO SAY OR DO IF I JOIN THE CALL?

Nothing... unless you want to.

  • We'll sing a couple of familiar songs, but we won't expect you to join us unless you want to.
  • We'll invite everyone and at the same time to say "Good morning" (no names), but we won't expect you to join that brief chorus unless you want to.
  • We'll invite people to offer the first names of people and brief identifications of situations they want us to pray for, but we won't expect you to add a name unless you want to.

Bottom Line: You'll be free to remain completely, totally, and utterly silent from the moment you get on the call til the time you hang up, and we'll praise God that you joined us.

ANYTHING ELSE I NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THIS WORSHIP?

Yes!

  • We'll sing three songs whose lyrics, in the order we'll sing them, you can access two ways: 1) by clicking HERE to visit our DOWNLOADS page (look for the first item on the list); or 2) scroll down on this page to find them ready for your use.
  • We'll take communion (the Lord's Supper). We'd LOVE for you to join us as we remember God's great love for us and Jesus' sacrifice for us on the cross. You DO NOT have to be connected to our church to join us for communion! All you'll need are a piece of food (bread, cracker, cookie, whatever) and a small amount of liquid (water, milk, juice, whatever). WHAT WE USE DOESN'T MATTER! What matters is the attitude we bring to the moment. Bill Coley will lead us as we take the food (the "bread"), then the liquid (the "cup"), so have your elements within reach when worship begins if you want to participate in that part of the worship.

I'M IN. HOW DO I CONNECT TO THE CALL ON MAY 3?

Three simple steps:

  • STEP 1: By 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, May 3, call 319-527-2705 (if you use a landline, you’ll need to dial a “1” before that number; cell phone users will not add the “1”) We'll start promptly at 10:30 a.m. so please do what can to call in on time.
  • STEP 2: The recorded voice that answers your call will ask you for an access code. At that point, enter 809985, followed by the # key. (If something goes wrong, hang up and start over from step 1.)
  • STEP 3: There is no step 3! You’re done and on the call with the rest of us! If you want, say hi and introduce yourself. If you want to remain silent, go ahead! From a beep the conference call system sounds we’ll know someone got on, but we’ll have no idea who.

That's it! Simply call in and listen. Sing, speak, and remain silent as you wish. Then hang up when we're done, we expect around 10:45 a.m. We'd love for you to join us!

the song lyrics for our may 3 worship by phone

“HOW GREAT THOU ART”

O Lord, my God, when I in awesome wonder

Consider all the worlds Thy Hands have made

I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder

Thy power throughout the universe displayed

Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to Thee

How great Thou art, how great Thou art

Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to Thee

How great Thou art, how great Thou art

When Christ shall come with shout of acclamation

And lead me home, what joy shall fill my heart

Then I shall bow with humble adoration

And then proclaim, my God, how great Thou art

Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to Thee

How great Thou art, how great Thou art

Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to Thee

How great Thou art, how great Thou art

“HOW GREAT IS OUR GOD”

How great is our God, sing with me

How great is our God, and will see

How great, how great is our God

Name above all names

You are worthy of all praise

My heart will sing, how great is our God

How great is our God, sing with me

How great is our God, and will see

How great, how great is our God

“AMAZING GRACE”

Amazing grace! How sweet the sound

That saved a wretch like me.

I once was lost, but now am found,

Was blind, but now I see.

Through many dangers, toils and snares

I have already come;

'Tis grace hath brought me safe thus far

And grace will lead me home.

The Lord has promised good to me

His word my hope secures;

He will my shield and portion be,

As long as life endures.

When we've been there ten thousand years

Bright shining as the sun,

We've no less days to sing God's praise

Than when we've first begun.
